Day Hiking on the Pacific Crest Trail

We decided to attempt an overnight hike on the Three Fingered Jack Loop trail which follows the Pacific Crest Trail starting at the Santiam Hwy crossing.  Our plan was to hike to Rockpile Lake, spend the night, and then hike back.  Unfortunately we hit snow at around 6000 feet elevation and after Jason post-holed up to his hip, we decided to turn back.

The hike was beautiful though.  It was a steady uphill climb through burn area with fields of Bear-grass and stunning views all around.  I'm looking forward to attempting it again a little later in the year.
